How It Works

The Science Behind Your Tattoo

When you get a tattoo, ink particles are inserted deep into the dermis—the deepest layer of your skin. Your immune system immediately recognizes this as an injury and sends phagocytes (specialized white blood cells) to the site to remove the foreign particles and heal the wound.

However, tattoo ink particles are significantly larger than these phagocytes can handle. While your immune system continuously works to remove them—which is why tattoos naturally fade over time—it can only eliminate small amounts. This is precisely why tattoos remain visible for years.

Laser-Assisted Removal

Laser tattoo removal works by assisting your body’s natural removal process. Here’s what happens during treatment:
